Why are we being so stereotypical?

Okay, so why are we so stereotypical? As you can see above is the poster of stereotypes. There are a lot of types of stereotypes in this era. Stereotypes are also can be called discrimination where people being grouped or judge by their appearance or doings.

People also tend to follow the trends of what the majorities like. They don't want to be an outcast, I guess. So, they blend in the the majorities. Why not be in the minorities where we could be different. You can see this clearly in the media nowadays. I'll give you examples that is near to us; Malaysian. Our movie industries loves making movies of gangster-ism or racing. This can be seen when KL Drift, Rempitz, Kongsi and many more were produced. In my opinions, the director of these particular movies, he/she actually trying to copy the famous silver screened show, Tokyo Drift.

Not only that, look at the  communication device that you are using. Blackberry or iPhone I suppose? It's becoming a trend now. No matter where you go, doesn't matter what age; you'd probably will see more that ten persons are literally using this kind of device. Even me, myself. Get right back at me, I know. Why are we following this stereotypical attitude?

Think about it. Do you want our future generations will be all the same, no special thing in them? No new things to explore? As what written in the most above poster; stereotypes are the views of the small minded.

  2. I agree with you on the movie choices Malaysian producers are trying to make. After a blockbuster movie suck as Spiderman, Malaysians come up with something totally not original, that is Cicak Man. Perhaps their rasionale is, if Spiderman can sell, why not Cicak Man because of its similarities. But on the high, the quality just drops and their are deemed UNoriginal in the market.

About communication devices, yes you can say some people suck up to trensetters and use mostly Blackberry and Iphone but in many cases, people dont simply follow the trend, they use it for the functionality. Especially for business people, a blackberry is sufficient because of mainly Push Email. As for Iphone user, the number is rapidly growing because of all the different applications available both legal and illegal, and now that you can say is STEREOTYPICAL.

    thanks,
    blackberry user!

  4. The fact that Malaysian aspiring film makers are following the Hollywood trend is saddening. To make it worse, other local film makers are also racing with each other upon making a movie with the same theme, in which bores the local audience to the fact that they no longer watch any Malay films ever since.

  5. Exactly! Malaysia sucks up to stereotyping in terms of film. Yes, they might be saying, "this sells! lets do this too!" but then again, where the originality in it? Why conform to society?

  6. Some of the latest movies from Malaysia are indeed stereotypes like you said. But I viewed this as a success from our film industry. We are exposed to many different style right now, like racing and fighting which never exist before in our country. Having stereotypes movie is actually a step for our film industry to grow and to experience more. However, some good movies has been done too with having stereotype. Like those from the late director, Yasmin Ahmad (Sepet, Mukhsin, Talentime) which I believed had displayed the stereotype of Malaysian's cultures.

  7. I agree with everything you said! Its so true! That everyone is following the latest trend or so, don't want to get left behind, well even we ourself are following the trend as well. But come to think about it, our future might come out the same, no different things or special things or so. So yeah, agreed with everything! :)
