TELL ME THE TRUTH!!

The internet is like a whole big game of cluedo. You do not really know what is the truth in there and what are gossips.

So the question boils down to :

Do you often take what is on the Internet as TRUTH with out thinking much about it?

My answer is yes, to a certain extend. Of course i do think about its possibilities about that certain statement or being being true or not. If the news is big, then obviously i would do further research about it and more online websites. For examples :

the death of the this well known singer - Amy Winehouse.

As soon as i heard the new that she had died, i instantly went to the internet to check if its true or not. If i see another news that a band is breaking up online, i would just simply believe it. IF its not the band that i like.

In another dimension, not all things on the internet is the truth. The internet is so wide that if i post something like Justin Bieber use to be a girl, people might just buy it. Who noes. The internet is a dangerous place to spread rumours hence alot of things posted on the web might not be true. Might be just a simple blogger filling in his time.

for everything, we also have the internet for facts. There are numerous websites which actually study things posted online and to see if its true... but then again, anyone can say anything and they might buy it.

Can the things posted on internet be trusted?

After reading this picture posted by our lecturer, Mdm Helena, on MMLS, we were asked if we often take what is on the internet as the truth without thinking much about it. Well, my take on this is NO. Don't believe or take it as the truth on the internet as something posted on the internet might be a prank. I don't read something in the internet and believe it.

In my opinion, why should someone immediately believe something that is posted in the internet? I think that many people who create websites and all, posting all sorts of things to catch one's attention so that those who created the website could earn big bags of cash. However, anyone is allowed to post anything they want on the internet, its just those reading it believes it or not. One would have to find in many different websites to verify if the information or things posted on the internet is true or not. If you want to be really very sure, go on searching for more info on the same thing and soon, you'll know if its true or not.

Information on the Net: Truth or Lie?

According to the caricature, almost everyone, including minor children, has the freedom of posting so-called official news to an organization considering the internet users’ age scope has become much wider compared to years ago and that organization has not put any restriction on who can actually update current news. In my opinion, although there happen to be fake news wide spreading around the net, there are a few reliable organizations that we can put our trust on such as CNN site.

However, there is a problem of people often mistaken reader’s or an important figure’s view as a legitimate news, in which, could lead to people being biased with a certain issue without judging it from the very official news itself. Thus, creating misunderstand that could led to a bigger problem. Often, this happens in politics where the oppositions assume every movement made by the government as a mere conspiracy. Take an example of one of the local website, Malaysiakini.com.

In order to avoid this complication, first, we have to make comparisons between the news posted on a website with another post with the same news, possibly written by different author, on a different website as to assure it is legitimate. If we are still unsure of it, keep on searching for more sources, be it analogue or digital.
