Firstly,

WHAT is social media?

Social media, from my understanding is the ability to communicate with peers and also random people through web-based media, mobile technology or any other way which is not face-to-face (eg, Wikipedia, Youtube, Facebook, Blogger etc).

HOW is social media affecting my life?

So far, i depend TOO much on social media.

Here is where it all started...

I was introduced to the INTERNET years ago where the first social website i had was, amazingly : 

This is somewhat like a social networking site because players were able to communicate with one another through MESSAGES. Over the months/years, i learnt new things and then discovered this little thing called :

This was a FULL social networking site. And the beginning of my social on the web life. Friendster let me meet many friends both new and old, let me share my stories, let my friends share stories with me and everyone and also let us share pictures. Friendster was the IN thing at that very moment. The most common phrase at that time, "Friendster la!" 

After years of that, new things started to pop and they took over everything, such as,

EFFECTS of social media...

Well, there's always 2 sides to a story isnt it?

So here's the positive side : 

Social media (for me) has taken over my life almost completely. The only possible way i find to make close peers is through communicating to chat (facebook, msn, skype, etc). I'm not much of a shy person but doing things not face-to-face helps alot. The awkwardness wont be there. 

The other positive about social media is for business people or people wanting to start their own business but dont know how to. Social media serves as a PLATFORM for them to SHOWCASE their products or talents. For video artist, the can upload their showreels on :

one very good example of a successful KID who made it big in the entertainment industry thanks to social media is :

Here is an example of how social media is slowly transforming the business world, 

from experience, i would say (because my family runs a music business both a music school and a music sales shop) opening an UNDEVELOPED blog got us a few customers. What more a developed blog with interactivity. 

Another way of growing a business is also to make something s annoying yet cute yet unbearable icon. For instance,

but even with this such annoying yet cute thing, it has become viral and they have tshirts and caps and things for sale. With a simple thing, they are growing a whole business.

And for the negative : 

Social media tend to make people isolate themselves. Because it is a ball of fun connecting with people through various ways and various means, people tend to be SINKED in the media world and get lost in there. At times, pulling them out isnt a very easy thing to do. Like a lonely tree on the mountain top. 

On the other hand, social media also acts as a way of people to STALK and GOSSIP and start RUMOURS. One of the well known bloggers who carry rumors through the internet is non other than :

The internet isnt all that safe when it comes to social media. Even parents find it hard to connect with their kids when they're on the internet too much.

SOCIAL MEDIA is slowly taking over our planet. It is fine but to a certain extend. With social media, the possibilities of world destruction is possible because of something called VIRUS. Even more dangerous than an infectious disease.

Also, statistics show that PORNIGRAPHY is the number 1 leading social media activity.
