Web 2.0 |
Before I begins with the pros and cons, here is my share of what is Social Media and how I get around them! The era of Social Media started when web 2.0 is introduced where the interaction between users within the society is everything. This is the start point where everyone starts to communicate through technologies of web based or mobiles. The good examples of this are Facebook, Blogger and Youtube etc. I was first introduced to Forums, a discussion board open for all people around the world. Then, came Friendster and the ever growing Facebook. This picture above best explained web 2.0. The use of Facebook, twitter, web mail, instant messaging etc. has made instant interaction between users all around the world possible. Instead of using post mail which requires days or even weeks, they can now share the news between each other instantly. However, with Social Media around, users had been depending too much on it's benefit instead of appreciating the peoples around them. Every second conversations are online and peoples no longer come out to visit others to share real moments together. Social Media is best for users to express themselves creatively. For some peoples, they used Youtube to broadcast their talent in singing or in video making. The one celebrity who benefit from this is Justin Bieber. Youtube is also used to bring up the name of a certain celebrity OR bringing down a celebrity. Some Asian singers like 2NE1 depends on their fan-base to spread their popularity and this fan-base had used Youtube to increase their music video watched count rapidly and had once reached 10 million views overnight. The downside of this though, Youtube has enable comments and rating for users which was sometimes abused by the users and had became a platform for cyber bully. One of the victim of cyber bully is Rebecca Black where we can read the insulting comments about her on her music video which shows how badly Social Media can get. |
