Even though being different may help identifying the unique in oneself, for media, having stereotype is a must. Stereotypes helps the audiences to get familiar with the characters and thus making the media even more interesting.
One of a good example of anime that use stereotype is Hetalia Axis Power;
This anime potrays the many main countries that involved in the World War II in human characters form. Some of the countries are Italy, Japan, Germany, America, England, France etc. Many in the scenes, they displays the common habit of how every countries act which show the stereotype of the particular country of the peoples. For examle, Japan character is potray as a polite and reserve person. He is very hardworking which is the stereotype for Japanese people. On the other end, France is potray as a romantic person and the way he laugh is the stereotype for being a France.
From this quote above, it shows how behind every man success in particular movies, there are women supporting them. For example, the movie Transformers. Who could deny the heroine, Mikaela Banes that played by Megan Fox has played a biggest role in Sam Witwicky acted by Shia LaBeouf's success? Then, in the movie Harry Potter, there is Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) who is very intelligent and without her, Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) probably would have long being dead.In every man's success there is a woman behind him
On one end, stereotypes arn't always right and based on the video Reel Bad Arabs: How Hollywood Vilifies a People, I'm not sure if I should say they are potraying stereotype or just being prejudice. Arabians being terrorist, stupid and made for "cheap humor" are not true and it is just the Hollywood trying to spread the wrong idea of Arabians.
If you were to take time and ponder the yonder on the matter of stereotypes, there are two sides to it. And come to think of it, there are always two sides to everything. As for the concern of stereotypical mediums that can often symbolically alter the lives of many, the affects can be either good or bad.
ReplyDeleteQuestionably, we have the means to ask, what are the good affects that media stereotypes can subconsciously actuate? Same question goes to what bad affects brings about within the societies of the people.
What my friend Atikah here has posted, in a manner of anime character speaking, stereotyping does help the audience connect and habituate to the characters, and you can feel the inner connection to what the characters do define and portray. That's one thing about stereotype.
Another, is merely programming the inside of your mind into following what media is severely injecting onto us, poisoning us into believing whatever the hell they force to make us believe.
So you see, if we can manage to uphold our standards and question ourselves without having to jump into the sack, then things wouldn't end up being stereotypical as it ought to be.
