The affects of social media

How does the "social media" affects me and the people around me? Ever since I constituted myself in becoming an expert of knowing how to use a computer, Friendster was the very first social networking website that I came to wonder and stumble upon. The psychedelic phenomenon of what social media has affected towards the people around the world is that, for one main and basic thing, it connects all of us under one website and we come together and basically, we get to know each other. Social media has its own pros and cons when it comes to virtual communication.

Some may use for the good, and some may use it mischievously. For most of it's own good part, is that, any social media around the world, they provide the possible connection within numerous number of people. For example, Youtube. Youtube has been the most booming video blog website that has ever created, famously known around the world. Video bloggers have their own creativity to post their videos and get feedbacks in return. Along the way, they do get some fruitful comments and some may not which lays them in severe environments for themselves.  Of course, the website that is most commonly known around the world and that is Facebook. Ever since it was launched in 2004, many users have signed up and ventured into its magical environment of such a website. Hence, 640,000,000 and more have made themselves recognized with the website and along the way, getting to know other people from other countries.

Ever since social media has been revolutionized, numerous account of people made such fuss about what is happening around the world and what has been going on even in our own country. What my friends and I have discussed is that social media has its own perks of making us discover the good use of it in a good manner of speaking. We can always post something like a blog, a video or anything that is related to socializing, we do tend to learn something out of it. It can affect us in so many ways possible that none of us seem to notice what consequences might sort out in the end. But what matters, is that we don't dare to fall behind and be obsolete. At the same time, we wouldn't want to let social media conquer us as we would forget that there are more important things in this world than socializing through websites.

Here are two video references on social media, enjoy!

  1. Hello there, I'm Inara Binti Ahmad Sariffudin (1102700416).

My views towards 'The affects of Social Media' is somewhat similar to Juliana's as I think that social media is undeniably a necessity in life, but then again one should not be to dependent on it. It's not wrong to check your usual updates of Facebook, Twitter and whatnot, but do remember that life is made up of the real things in life. Don't be caught up with the realm of cyberspace until you are ignorant of what's happening around you.

Beneath all of the cons of social media, I do believe that it really has revolutionize our lives particularly in the communications part, but do take note that a certain strong balance of reality (real life) and virtual (social media life) elements should be distributed equally in our everyday life.

  2. Have you ever thought that the social media might have its side effects towards it? Apart from being a necessity, people do rely on it too much. Even the young ones nowadays, they forget that there's more to life than just socializing, right? If you do notice, the young ones today, they're having trouble with reading, and that they rely too much on e-books. I think that's just a saddening thing that kids now, they don't have the capability to break apart that barrier from the social world and go things the traditional way. Yes, social media is a necessity but it doesn't have to be attached to us for a longer period of time.

I do think that social media has its cons as well, like I said in the post. They ought to break that social wall and get their asses off and social with people, literally and verbally face to face. That way, you can learn so much from that as well. This is merely my point of view. It affects us in so many possible ways.

  3. Even though the social media is one of the most effective way for one to connect and communicate with the people around us moreover with the ones that is beyond our reach, what good would that be if one is friends in the internet world but doesn't even bother to say hi in the real world. Clearly it implies that the facility of social media is nothing but a sub-medium for communications to happen.

You might spend countless hours communicating with a person via online, but what really creates a bond between individuals, groups, and people in general is when real face to face verbals are conducted.

In other aspects such as information and file sharing, social media sites certainly perks up as being a great contributor. Perhaps what we have forgotten is the real use and intention of social media. Socializing is an undisputable reason for one to turn to social media, but why not make good use of it. Rather than just spending time on the same socializing concentrated sites, take time to explore other social media sites that has different approaches such as

    - Vimeo (focuses on high quality videos)
    - Threadless (t-shirt designs that are worth checking !)

and the possibilities are endless .

  4. That is true. Apparently, I do agree in every aspect of that opinion. Mostly all individuals, they would have the propensity to lose track of time and balance themselves out between the real world and the virtual world. Whether we like it or not, the social media can be quite of an addictive drug to feed us whatever "information" the social medium contributors do contribute. If we don't get a piece of what's happening in the virtual world, we tend to get deprived. But that's the thing, and like I said, we ought to put a barrier between real life and the social world.

Sure, it is somewhat better that we make use of our time researching through a much more productive websites. Like reading the news, or maybe if the creative people are looking for inspirations, they'd look up to any designer websites for aspirations. That, I say would make a good full of our time if we know how to use it. Making video blogs not only for entertainment but to break the important news of what is happening to the world or maybe, create an awareness that may benefit us in every way.

That is how it would/could/should be done, isn't it?

  6. I still wonder now and again, why are we (the recipients) so addicted to social media ? I can't deny that I'm one of the many that falls trap in the ever so addictive world of social media. In a day, you just have to log in Facebook or Twitter to know updates of the others don't ya ? At least once, or you'll certainly feel deprived to no end. Then can this be define as an addiction instead ?

If you don't bother logging in those social media sites, life would be so much more. But then there's always the fact that you'd be missing out what's happening. But if the people before us could survive communicating and socializing with others in their lives without the existence of such sites, then why can't we ?

It's the affect of social media, that's why.

  7. Due to that actual fact, we (the recipients) are so unconsciously addictive to such a revolutionized medium would be due to the reality that we can't seem to find any other productive things to carry out during the day. I probably think that's why. We fail to acknowledge that there are much fresher things to behold with our own naked eyes rather than seeking and browsing through social websites and on top of that, it may affect our eyes to be blurry.

I'm pretty strong-headed when it comes to social networking sites. Yes, I do log on every once in awhile but I never intend to sit and wait for something to happen and leaf through pages that doesn't benefit me much. I'd might as well look for references and something that inspires me to do my work. I'm an amateur photographer and what I'd do mostly, is browse through a lot of photography sites and manifest some ideas from it.

At times, I do oppose the idea of social media but then again, like what my friend here had said before, it's a necessity. Whether we like it or not, its a privilege for us due to our usage to be in the know of the happenings and goings in with its advance technology.

What's life without a little 'difficulty'?
