Stereotype can simply mean types of individuals and/or group of social beings. If I have to talk about media stereotypes, I can come up with a thousand examples and views of how stereotypes can occur at such occasion. Come to think of it, "typecasts" or it is commonly known as "stereotypes" can be somewhat of a problem to the society. I have perused through some videos and in conjunction, leaf through a bit of reading, kids from the range of three to twelve years old are already instilled with media. Vastly influenced by its stereotypical conduct that allows them to follow and be followed by what the media has been spoon feeding with imposition. They can be inceptionally pried upon the mind with magazines, television shows, advertisements, billboards and even worse, by their own friends and family. This has been said proven that it was done with little intention and rather subconsciously in which, it is frankly uncertain of what the consequences that solutes to the problem, of teaching the young ones how media can affect us stereotypically. Saddening as it is, till now, children of young age are constantly injected hypodermically to follow what is trending in the virtual world.
The video Reel Bad Arabs: How Hollywood Vilifies a People appoints us to deliberately contemplate that people are often led to think that Arabs are terrorists, and it is how stereotypical that American people would view of them. This might be the cause of the great tragic incident during the 9/11 memorial. Again, American citizens are induced to designate that Arab looking individuals are terrorists, even worse, thinking that they come from a barbaric family background, therefore carries an intent generic way to live life barbarically. Media has its own tricks up their sleeves to trick the audience of what to think and the ways to conceive things. Almost as if what is projected in their mind, then that is what they should robotically perceive.
Thus, typecasts arises among the audience. We can only say so much what media has been projectedly poison the viewers to view things. Making us hold back our true identity and our ways of intellectual thinking. For example, moviegoers are comprised to remark that black people in movies are to be identified as gangsters and criminals. Consequently, the audience would take in the effect from the phrase, “what you see is what you get”. Meaning, if you see black people running around pointing guns and they start shooting random people, then in reality, it might happen in real life. This is what it has been commonly happening around us. We’re being stereotypical and we let ourselves to be. If we were to define ourselves as the way we are, boldly question things without putting a direct answer to it, then we may not have to follow or be followed what the media has been swallowing us with. It is hypodermically done. It is inevitable, truth to be said.
To boot, another video that justifies what stereotype really defines as. Enjoy!

No wonder the new generations are so easily influenced with stereotypes, they've been shoved with em since early childhood ! With such stereotypes being implanted in their little honest heads, they'd surely believe them to be true.
ReplyDeleteAnd when we look at races being typecast in a specific manner, Arabs and Black people certainly bear the burdens that the act of stereotyping brings, with such discriminating particulars.
